This sculptural wall piece is part of my Georgia series. Its shapes, colours and materials reflect the country’s wild mountain landscapes and its vibrant cultural heritage.
The work was created during a month-long stay in a small village in Georgia. I lived in my great-grandmother’s house — the same house where my mother spent all her childhood summers. During that month, I let intuition rather than thought guide my creative process. I took long walks through the nearby canyon and watched the sun set behind the Caucasian mountains. I heated the house with a wood-burning stove and fed the street cat that faithfully waited for me every morning and evening. During my breaks, I sipped strong coffee or sugar-infused tea on the veranda, my mind deeply immersed in the characters of Nino Haratischwili’s marvellous novels.
Village life slowed me down. It allowed me to listen inwardly and to create from a place of instinct and presence. This piece is a reflection of that quiet, intuitive month.
